William Chabbey is now used to the scenes of the Rhone-Alpes
where he plays each year on his tour, and the jazz-club of Savoy welcomes him
each time with great pleasure for a concert, in the cellar of the 20, avenue des
Chevaliers Tireurs in Chambéry or within the framework of the Chambery jazz
festival where he performed several times.
Bathed in the jazz of years 50/60, under the influence of course jazzmen like Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles... William Chabbey is also interested in all music genres, including traditional, ancient, and also the blues, Latin music, and swing which enables him to complete a synthesis between a well understood and respected tradition and the necessary evolution of a living music. And his repertoire correctly translates this transition through its original second reading of the great traditional standards and more current topics, but also by personal compositions, where his talent as a virtuoso instrumentalist doesn't exclude a great sensitivity and a real lyricism. After having played with various musicians within groups of various sizes and styles, William Chabbey chose to play within a trio, initially with other jazzmen he met during his music studies at the CIM, then with two American musicians, George Brown on drums (drummer for Wes Montgomery, Chet Baker...) and James Lewis on contrebass (contrebass player for Billy Higgins, Von Freeman...).
The last disc of W Chabbey correctly translates the spirit of his music,
significant, dense, intense, for the cool image from the last world war years ,
whose best representatives are Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, an "impressionist"
music without being for as much insipid or without energy William Chabbey will
play tomorrow, Friday April 28 starting at 21h30, in the cellar of the jazz-club
of Savoy, 20, avenue des Chevaliers Tireurs in Chambéry, with Gil Lachenal on
contrebass, composer, arranger, one of best jazzmen in the area, and Manu Rocheat
on drums, who mainly tours in Italy, and played in France with the great jazz
names and recently with Michel Petrucciani. A young guest of great talent Eric
Prost on tenor saxophone, from Collectif Mu and other groups, will join the trio
for the event.
